ABSTRACT

Inventory control is primarily concerned with optimizing inventory balances so that net income is optimized.  This is achieve through providing the right quantity.  One looking from the accounting point of view, the criteria to be borne in mind are the value of the Inventory, its susceptibility to misappropriation and the useable life.
    Therefore an adequate system of control must aim at retaining inventory at appropriate level; safe-guarding inventory against loss or misuse; ensuring that inventory is properly used in business operations and that it is daily accounted for; eliminating delivery of incorrect inventory as regards type, quantity and quantity; controlling movement of issues and for sales of inventory per product, precautions of the passing of invoices for payment without the receipt of the inventory and the precaution of goods being changed at incorrect prices.
    It is reusable therefore, that top management formulate inventory policies that will gives rises to optimum inventory investment, promote efficiency, and control errors, fraud and waste.
