PROBLEMS OF BROADCASTING IN A DEPRESSED ECONOMY

In a depressed economy like Nigeria, private ownership of broadcast media is a dream which only very few individuals can realize due to its cost and maintenance unlike in a buoyant economy where individuals and organizations launch and own broadcast houses.

So the economy of any nation becomes the bargaining power of its broadcasting improvement and performance.  It could be recalled that Nigeria enjoyed economic boom in the early 1970's shortly after its oil exploration.

The Nigeria economic is currently dependent on one commodity, which is crude petroleum oil, over 90% of the total revenue of this country to driven from the sale of crude oil, formerly, agricultural products, called cash crops-cocoa-cocoa, cotton, groundnut, palm products, robber, timber provided Nigeria with nearly all her revenue.

Broadcasting in Nigeria today cannot be equated or measured with their counterparts in developing countries.
