ABSTRACT
This research work entitled "Perceptions of Stakeholders on Prevailing Leadership Styles of Principals in Secondary Schools in Zaria and Giwa Educational Zones in Kaduna State" was conducted using descriptive survey research design. Five hundred copies of questionnaire was used as a tool for gathering data. Research objectives include to examine the prevalence of lassies faire leadership styles of principals in secondary schools in Kaduna state and investigate the prevalence of democratic leadership styles of principals in secondary school in Kaduna State.. Six null hypotheses were formulated and tested using t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The hypotheses include: there is no significant difference in the perceptions of stakeholders on the prevalence of lassies faire leadership style in secondary schools in Kaduna State, there is no significant difference in the perception of stakeholders on the prevalence of democratic leadership styles in secondary schools in Kaduna State; there is no significance difference in the perceptions autocratic leadership style in secondary schools in Kaduna State, there is no significant difference in the perception of stakeholder's on transformational leadership style in secondary schools in Kaduna State, there is no significant difference in the perceptions of stakeholders on prevalence of facilitative leadership style in secondary schools in Kaduna State and there is no significant difference in the perceptions of stakeholders on prevalence of facilitative leadership style in secondary schools in Kaduna State. The data for the study were collected through the use of constructed questionnaire. In line with the findings, some conclusions were made which Staff/Teachers in Zaria and Giwa educational zones should be given opportunity to go for in-service training to obtain professional qualifications and also be empowered. The principals in secondary schools should adopt collaborative, democratic and facilitative leadership styles. The principals should give the teachers leadership roles and allow them to participate in decision making process. The principals should still improve on their supervisory roles, they should intensify on supervising the activities of teachers in secondary schools. The Ministry of Education should also organize regular supervision for principals and teachers in secondary schools in Zaria and Giwa educational zones in Kaduna state.
