ABSTRACT
Tourism in Nigeria is fast becoming popular. It is an initiative embraced by the various state governments to generate revenue internally and harness various indigenous potentials, natural attractions, leisure and recreational development were seen as a possible means of foreign exchange earnings. This thesis is carried out in order to make provision for a conducive environment by utilising the available natural physical and climatic conditions found on the Federal capital territory. Generally in the design of this sort, where various people and activities are involved, strong logical reasoning comes into play. It is important to note however that for logic to be acceptable in design, it should be based on some premises which already have bearing of particular emphasis. Therefore studies and analysis of the socio-economic and environmental factors related to the improvement and promotion of leisure and recreation are carried out in and around the area of study. There is the absence of comprehensive and appropriate place for recreation and relaxation to serve the federal capital territory and its environs. Nigeria with its multi cultural society and diversed ethnic groups should have a kind of focal point, whereby people of various origin and interests can visit, recreate and amuse themselves, without having to travel outside the country. The adequate provision of such conducive environment have been hindering the development of some aspects of the socio cultural and economic sectors of the country. It is time to consciously attempt the creation of an appropriate tourist environment in the country, where detail initial planning is taken into consideration. The naturally beautiful landscape of the federal capital territory, presents a prerequisite setting for this development and should not be left to fallow for too long.
