ABSTRACT
This study investigated "Information Access, Generation and Utilization by Poultry Farmers in Zaria Environs Kaduna State Nigeria. It was conducted in order to investigate what provision or lack of provision of information generation, access and utilization by poultry farmers can do to the socio economic of poultry farmers. The objectives of the study were achieved by formulating and answering four research questions. Survey method was adopted for the research. The instruments used to collect data for the study was questionnaire which was administered to the respondents in Zaria environs. The data collected were analyzed, using, chart, frequency tables and percentages in form of descriptive statistical tool. The entire population was used for this study, which was made up of registered poultry farms in Zaria environs. A well-structure questionnaire was administered to 100 of the respondents with a total of 88 (88.0/%) copies returned. It was discovered that, over 60% of poultry farmers in Zaria environs were not generating, accessing and utilizing the poultry information available due to lack of ICT infrastructure and lack of skills, lack government support and lack of cooperation among poultry farmers in Zaria environs. The study recommended that Information providers with the assistance of public libraries should exploit the possibilities of processing, repackaging and disseminating such information using extension workers, social and religious places. This could emulate NGOs and profit-making enterprises such as GSM providers, etc who disseminate information to their target audience. The state Library Boards should take up the responsibility of ensuring that state library services collaborate with Community Information Centres and provide relevant information to the poultry farmers. Information for poultry farming business could come from the Local Government Information unit to the Community Information Centre (CIC). Community Information Centre, religious places and social gathering has been hereby recommended for accessing information. Government should organize workshops, seminars, and other training time to time so as to increase the level of poultry Information generation, access and utilization by poultry farmers in Zaria environs.
